Anniversary Dinner

Our anniversary fell on Super Bowl Sunday this year! We had a very unsportsman-like dinner of Black Cod Broiled with Miso, from the Minimalist Mark Bittman, steamed rice, and roasted veggies.

The vegetables were a mix of all sorts of things: broccoli, green onions, shallots, garlic, carrots (oops, there goes the curried carrot soup I was planning), plus leftover props from our photo shoot last week:  asparagus and brussels sprouts.

I had wanted the two little boys to fence with asparagus spears, but they kept really hitting them together and breaking them. Their sister was completely unimpressed with the brussels sprouts, too. So my veggie/healthy eating shots fell by the wayside. Ah well.

Our friends Steve and Maggie joined us for dessert (and the recorded football game). I made the Cocoa Brownies with Browned Butter and Walnuts, which are on the cover of the February 2011 Bon Appetit magazine. They brought vanilla ice cream to go with. Yummmmmy. Can’t make something like that without some friends to help. Even on your anniversary!
